Mukhlis ABSart (born 1991) is an Indonesian artist based in Jambi. A self-taught practitioner, he has developed an artistic practice through an intuitive and continually evolving process. His work began in digital media before expanding into acrylic painting on canvas, while remaining open to exploring new mediums as his practice continues to grow.
Alongside his artistic practice, Mukhlis works as a farmer and runs a small business. Rather than separating art from everyday life, he allows both to exist side by side. Drawing and painting have become an ongoing part of his daily life, sustained not by professional obligation but by a genuine curiosity and a lasting interest in the creative process.
Rather than beginning with predetermined concepts or carefully structured sketches, Mukhlis allows each work to emerge organically. A single line often becomes the starting point, gradually leading to forms, symbols, objects, compositions, and colors that develop spontaneously throughout the process. For him, making art is not about executing a finished idea, but about discovering visual possibilities as they unfold.
His practice is informed by everyday experience. What he sees, hears, feels, and encounters—through both sensory and internal experiences—gradually shapes an evolving visual language. Instead of committing to a fixed subject or theme, Mukhlis follows personal curiosity, visual instinct, and an ongoing desire to experiment, allowing each body of work to develop in its own direction.
Since 2021, Mukhlis has been actively involved in the NFT and blockchain art ecosystem. He views blockchain not merely as a platform for distributing artworks, but as a medium that enables art to be documented, collected, and experienced within a decentralized environment. His engagement with blockchain reflects a broader interest in exploring how emerging technologies can expand the possibilities of artistic practice.
Through his work, Mukhlis approaches art as an ongoing process of exploration—a way of understanding experience, asking questions, and navigating the relationship between the self, the surrounding environment, and a constantly changing world. Each artwork is treated as a record of discovery rather than a definitive conclusion, leaving space for multiple interpretations to emerge.
